Rental for Alma

Rental for Alma is a compact guest house located on the same hillside property as Home for Alma in San Luis de Morete, Costa Rica. Designed as a self-contained rental unit, it offers approximately 45 square meters of thoughtfully organized living space.

The brief called for an independent living unit that could serve as guest accommodation or generate rental income while complementing the main residence. The same off-grid infrastructure — solar PV with battery storage — powers both buildings, maintaining full autonomy from public utilities.

The spatial concept combines sleeping, living, and cooking zones within a single open-plan volume. A wooden platform bed anchors the sleeping area, while a compact walnut kitchen with open shelving and a built-in sofa create a comfortable living zone. The warm timber ceiling contrasts with polished concrete floors.

Natural materials define the interior: timber plank ceilings, walnut cabinetry, and polished concrete floors create a cohesive material palette. A woven lattice barn door provides privacy while maintaining visual connection between zones. Large sliding glass doors open to a private terrace with panoramic mountain views.
